Will exists in a world that looks and feels like our modern 21^st century world, except that creatures of myth and legend exist in secret. Some live side-by-side with humanity while others, such as the Fae, live in a secret, unseen world that overlaps (and sometimes intrudes on) the mundane one. Per his backstory, I have flexibility to play him in historical periods dating back to the early 18^th century. I'm also willing to AU him into other periods and high fantasy settings.

History

The Fae tends to keep to their own affairs and not meddle much in those of humanity. Which isn't to say they don't meddle with individual humans or an individual human's entire bloodline. Those Fae affiliated with the Seelie Court are simply less malevolent about it than their Unseelie cousins. Still, the Seelie have no great love for humans, viewing those with whom they do interact, at worst, as feral animals and, at best, as curious and exotic oddities. Where mortals write songs and stories of great loves between the Fae and their own, to the Fae, such encounters were more akin to the Fae keeping a beloved pet and little more.

Will was once the same.

Most who count themselves among the Floral Fae sprung from the plants with which they're affiliated. It's the nobility of the Fae who are born to parents. The parent-child relationship is quite different among the Fae and bears little loyalty or affection. For the biggest part of his life, Will lived among his fellow Fae, but his duties as the Lord of the Floral Fae had him wandering through gardens that bled into the mundane world, which led him to meeting human gardeners, and eventually bonding with them over their knowledge and love of his precious plants.

He followed his gardeners' families for generations, helping them, learning from them, and eventually coming to love them. The woman who became his wife, Lawan, was not a gardener herself, but a musician. The may times removed great grandchild of the first human gardener who benefited from Will's interest and magic. She sat in her ancestral gardens, plucking her sueng to Will's great enchantment.

For his outspoken defense of humans against casual Fae cruelty, Will was punished with the death of his loved ones. The living decedents of his gardeners were rounded up and killed in front of him. Once this punishment was complete, Will was exiled from the Fae realm. Among humans, he grieved. And then chose to honor the lives he held dear. He traveled the world, the dearest wish of one of his gardeners. He devoted himself to the music his wife loved. He let himself be lost in every good and beautiful thing humanity created, art, food, architecture, all of it!

Since living among humans for the last three centuries, Will's lived a mostly carefree and hedonistic life. He savors the happiness of others as much as his own, even more so if he's able to contribute to that happiness. Will continues to enjoy all of life's pleasures: music, art, good food, sex, travel. Currently, he runs a little coffee shop called The Bean Counter and volunteers at a local animal shelter.

Personality

Will is outwardly warm, friendly, and bubbly. He is deeply passionate about both his interests and the people in his life (be they romantic partners or not). As a Fae, he is unable to lie. Unlike his ilk, Will does not endeavor to manipulate or mislead his way around the truth. In fact, he despises deceit. There is much he can forgive, by lying to him is not one of those things.

Will is open to experiences new and old. His greatest joys are love, music, art, food (especially sweets) and animals (he has four adopted pets: Keats, Poe, Shelley, and George). He delights in love of all kinds, be it his own or others'. He values the human experience and marvels at what they're able to accomplish in their short lives. His looks are also important to him. He is a flower, after all.

Every now and then, others may get a glimpse of Will's more serious side. He's slow to anger, but when triggered, his temper flares hot. He is capable of great violence if incited to it. However, he prefers to keep those aspects under control, a much easier thing to do now that he's living among humans and generally left alone by other Fae. Sometimes, it's possible to see a deep melancholy he carries with him always, as well.

First impressions

Will values his appearance and takes great care of it. He's rarely seen barefaced in public. His hair is long(ish) and stylishly messy with natural waves. His clothes are usually bright and outlandish, but comfortable. Will's of average height with sun-kissed skin and dark eyes. Due to many years of traveling in Southeast Asia, Will's English is obviously accented. If the weather is cold (below 70F), he will be found in no fewer than three layers of clothing. For those who may notice, Will always smells vaguely of Vanda orchids (a light scent that's sweet and citrusy).

Abilities and weaknesses

Abilities

• Earth elemental magic (main elemental affiliation); able to create any plant (at present, he believes he is only able to create flowering plants), manipulate wood and earth, and can summon the strength of stone.

• Fire elemental magic (secondary elemental affiliation); able to conjure fire of various sizes, the larger the flame the harder it is to control.

• Illusionary magic; typically used to hide his Fae aura; can also be used in offensive and defensive ways by making target(s) believe something physical bars their path or is 'attacking' them (ex — a maze of thorns like Maleficent summons in Sleeping Beauty or Seishirou's killer cherry blossom petals in the Tokyo Babylon OVA).

• Natural affinity with animals

Weaknesses

• Cold/ice; Will is incredibly sensitive to cold, to the point that it can (and does) injure him seriously.

• Iron; a weakness of all Fae; iron will burn any part of Will that it contacts, the severity of which is determined by the duration of contact.

• Alcohol; a single drink of alcohol will render Will functionally drunk (however, Will doesn't suffer hangovers).

• Easily distracted by beauty
